I've noticed the same on the Etec's. they just don't care if they are overpropped, the have gobbs of torque regardless. Fuel economy normally does well when you keep the WOT rpm down a bit
The Typhoon is a different blade then the Silverado. It has mor cup and normally bites well.

What do you think of a Powertech OFS4 14P over the typhoon, better sternlift, performance? I spoke with Marcus @ Powertech regarding my situation and this was the recommendation. It seems a little more aggressive than the Typhoon, and is 1/2" smaller in diameter then the current Rebel 15P.

The Typhoon is a smaller prop for smaller boats. The OFS4 is a 15 1/4 diameter 4 blade. Its a lot of prop.
Your holeshot would be very strong, it would give more sternlift, and you'd probably give up 4 mph on top end.

Powertech also has the SFS Its the "baby ofs" Its 14 1/4 diameter, and has the same blade design. Still sternlifting, but just a little smaller, so you won't give up so much top speed.

Have you had a chance to run many Powertech's? How do you like their hub design, slipping vs. spun hub? I'm looking for sternlift, but as you point out, don't want a top end slug either. Leaning towards the Typhoon/Vensura at this point. Was anything changed when Mercury went from Offshore to Vensura name change(cupping, rake)?

I've ran quite a few Powertechs. They are good props, and their hub design is a good one as well. You can also get a powertech with a merc hub system if you like. I normally stick with their "cushion lock" hub design.
The Vensura/ Typhoon is a decent 4 blade, it kinda lifts the whole boat a little. Not just the stern. I don't think anything changed from the Offshore series to the Vensura/ Typhoon.
The powertech OFS4 is a sternlifter for sure. But if they want you to run a 14 pitch, its just going to kill top speed. I haven't ran the "baby ofs" yet, but its suppose to be the same design, just a little smaller diameter which would let you run the higher pitch.
the Renegade seemed to be the best so far. (14 1/2 x 17) 4 blade 42 mph at 5450 rpm.
With those Etecs, I try for 5400-5600 rpm WOT
You could either stay with the Renegade, Or go with the Typhoon, or Powertech Baby OFS. All are small diameter 4 blades and they will be within 150 rpm of eachother.
The typhoon with be very similiar to the Renegade, it cost $379 and you'll need a $35 Hub to make it fit
The Powertech SFS will give more sternlift, then the Typhoon, probably a mph slower, it cost $350 hub included.

I'll let you know how the Mercury Offshore(Vensura/Typhoon) 14.5x17P performs once I can get on the water. Thanks again for your help! Do you have Prop God T-shirts available?

I'm out of T-Shirts right now. I need to get some made soon. I'm redoing the website right now. I'm going to put some T-shirts and Visors on the website in the next month or so. Email me, and when I get them made I'll send you one. KR@Propgods.com

I ran one of the original offshore props (pre PVS) years ago, borrowed from the local boat shop. last year I finally bought the Typhoon from Ken. I ran GPS speed in 1,000 rpm increments, plus top speed for both props. They were virtually identical.

The Mercury Offshore 17p did the trick! It brought the wot up to 5500-5600 @42mph and made a noticeable decrease in porpoising. I may add tabs later for rough water control. Once I get some good numbers throughout the rpm range, I post them in the perf. # section. Ken, thanks for getting me dialed in!
